Interested in surf instructor training?

We are pretty certain we could describe the perfect job to you in five words, so here goes: sunshine, the sea, surfing? Endless sunny days filled with happy students, diverse groups of people and vitamin sea? Have we got your attention yet? Thought so…!

For many of you fellow sea lovers, the idea of becoming a surf instructor may be a pipeline dream but it really could be a reality. And to make it more so, we try and make it as easy as possible. How? We are more than just a surf school, our base in Croyde, conveniently less than a two-minute walk to the beach, is also a certified training facility where we offer a varying number of courses as well as the chance to volunteer for local charities.

In order to become a qualified L1 Surf Instructor, you need to take your Lifeguard course as well as your Surf Instructors course followed by 20 hours of shadowing lessons. We can offer it all! The lifeguard course takes fives days, the surf instructors course takes two and the shadowing you will be able to complete over the course of 10 lessons. We also help you will all of your paperwork including the shadowing logbook, surf analysis and all the other certification required.

Admin and qualifications aside, let us tell you about the fun part of being an instructor. Well firstly we are based in Croyde, home to some of the best waves in the UK, with a huge sense of community and amazing social life. The majority of our instructors all started down here as seasonaires and have now turned the local towns into their homes. There is a very strong family-feel amongst the locals here where everyone is welcoming, hospitable and love making new friends. Look at it as it more like an extended family!

Our surf school offers the chance for all of our instructors to grow an individuals and take on further responsibility as they spend more time with us. There are endless opportunities to get involved with more than just our lessons. We work closely with groups such as The Wave Project Wave Wahines, Girls on Waves, Nala Beads and so many more. And plus, you get to be on the beach every day… we dare you to try and find a better classroom!

But perhaps the most important part of being an instructor is what you can gain personally from such a role. We are firm believers of ‘do what you love, love what you do’ and what better way to do this than to turn a sport you love into a paid career? This is the perfect chance to work with like-minded people, all determined to help others find enjoyment in such a wonderful activity. Teaching all ages surfing is one of the most rewarding jobs you could ever ask for. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone’s face when they stand up for the first time. Trust us!
