The New Version of Us

What a year it’s been so far! And despite the lows, with it has come the absolute, irreplaceable highs. If you had asked us to fast-forward the year to June 1, when we were allowed to open for private lessons, there is not a chance we would have predicted just how busy we have all been at the school. Now we have recently progressed from 1:5 lessons to 1:8, we are now being even more careful and vigilant than ever, where our students (surfers and lifeguards) and team members are our absolute priority.

In a world where masks are now a must, we operate a strict policy when you enter the school but luckily our classroom is Croyde beach so we spend very limited time inside. Your instructor will always be ready for you when you arrive and will guide you through our sign in process in reception. All of our team have regular Covid training to keep up with the changing guidelines and want to make your journey as safe and fun as possible. Once you all are safely signed in, your instructor will take you outside to grab your equipment.

Our goal is to maximise your time in the water, reduce risk and ultimately catch some waves.

Our current Covid policy is very simple: be safely always. From monitoring the 2m rule to sanitizing our boards, wetsuits and changing rooms, our cleaning and monitoring processes are in place to make sure that you have the ultimate Surf South West experience.

Over the past 4 weeks, since we were given the go-ahead to open our doors to all of you, we have had our record season. We have had over 350 lessons and we now currently have 12 instructors working for us with many old faces you will recognise. We have also been hosting our lifeguard and surf instructing courses every week, where we now have qualified over 200 people this summer. Many of our students then go on to work with us here as instructors or help with sessions at The Wave Project.

We are firm believers that as lovers and endless users of the sea and the outdoors, we are in the safest environment during these somewhat turbulent and uncertain times. What better way to enjoy the best of the British summer than catching some waves! We are here to look after you.

Some recent feedback from our students:

“SSW is the only place to learn how to be an instructor. The best teachers, facilities and experience I could have asked for. I felt permanently safe and enjoyed every second!”

“This is the third year we have returned here for our children to have lessons and once again an amazing experience. The staff were so helpful and knowledgeable. The site was
covid secure. The tuition is excellent. Great ratios in the water compared to other schools.”

“I had an intermediate surf lesson with Surf South West. They went out of their way to cater for the different needs of each individual group member and went above and beyond what I expected. My instructor was really knowledgeable but also approachable and friendly meaning I learnt a huge amount in just a couple of hours and also really enjoyed the lesson. I left inspired to improve further. Thank you so much. I would recommend this surf school to anyone."

To book in your sessions, please email us on info@surfsouthwest.com. We can’t wait to get you into the water.
