Get qualified surf instructor in North Devon

The 2 day course is led by Surf South West’s Level 3 Training/Assessor coach John Ellis. The course is internationally recognised and covers all aspects of coaching at beginner level and leads to the Level 1 qualification which allows coaches to work at surf schools and is recognised in many parts of the world. It is a basic requirement for surf coaches working at surf schools, surf clubs and schools and leads to the more advanced Level 2 qualification. (See below for Level 2 courses)

Please note that in addition to attendance of the course and satisfactory completion of course tasks, candidates will also have to demonstrate a basic level of personal surfing competence. This is assessed during the course where candidates will be expected to paddle out (generally in 2 to 3 feet surf) and catch unbroken waves demonstrating ability to ride lefts and rights with control and confidence.

To gain the Surfing England qualification you will also require a current Beach Life Saving Qualification – this can be obtained before or after the course. Candidates are also required to complete twenty hours post course coaching experience with a surf school – this can be completed with us or elsewhere.

Successful completion of the course also includes 1 year’s free surf coach affiliation with Surfing England worth £45.
