John is originally from ‘up north’ just outside of Manchester. He started surfing in 1993 in North Wales and has been surfing ever since. He studied Sport Science at university and then moved to Devon to Work at Surf South West in 2005. John has been one of our two head instructors since 2007 leading our group holidays around Europe, Central America and recently to Sri Lanka. John is a trainer and assessor for the Royal Lifesaving Society and runs beach lifeguard courses from our training centre at Croyde. He also is accredited by the International Surfing Association to deliver surf instructor qualifications in the UK. John also works with the sports governing body 'Surfing England'. He used to be the manager of the British Junior Surf Team, but now is a course presenter. When John isn't working at Surf South West, he likes to travel, surf and is a big Liverpool FC fan.
